About CALDER

in

CALDER (Content, Architecture and aLgorithms for 3D Extraction and Rendering) is a ANR funded project.

The main objective of the project is to demonstrate the feasibility and user acceptation of a wide range of applications of 3D stereoscopic displays in a mobile. It addresses the following of objectives that all contribute to the overall goal:

  • To broaden the application domains of 3D displays in mobile phone.
  • To analysis of user perception and acceptability of stereoscopic displays in mobile devices.

Project Summary

in

The feasibility of 3D display is now well established and auto-stereoscopic displays are now available at reasonable price points. These displays allow a true 3D experience through a genuine perception of depth (stereoscopy) without the need to wear disgraceful goggles. Many research activities have been undertaken with a strong focus on the TV use case. This step is the starting point of a vision where auto-stereoscopic (or 3D) display are broadly adopted and mass deployed in mobile devices. Yet, this technological breakthrough is obviously not sufficient to realize this vision. Many aspects need to be worked out and are addressed by the international community.
CALDER is an Experimental Development project that builds on the results of the ANR/RIAM project TriScope and that undertakes to contribute to this effort.
